As I was washing my bowl in the sink, a single, small bubble appeared and began to float around. At first, it went up – higher, higher and higher until its path became unpredictable. I watched as it went its own way, fluidly dancing about. Then, it started to sink. It went down, down, then down faster until it rested on the floor. It was there for less than a second before it disappeared. As I left the kitchen, I walked right over its last resting spot. Then, I simply went along with my day.
When we’re not mindful of life’s impermanence, we confine ourselves in a bubble. As human beings, we weren’t put in this world to exist just for the sake of existing, but rather we’re here to do our part – a very important part that makes up a much larger whole.
When we are mindful of who we are and why we’re here, we can then start to slow down a bit and savor life. We realize, that whether we are aware of our mortality or not, there will eventually come a time when the bubble pops and disappears.
We don’t have to have all the answers. We just need to be willing to ask the big questions.
We just get this one life. Just one. Be responsible for it, it’s yours and only yours for just a certain amount of time on this earth.
It isn’t about being remembered but rather how you made the world a little bit better by your existence. There will be those who walk along mindlessly about their days, but not us. We are aware that we only have one life and that we will make it our mission to live it with love and with an abundance of gratitude.
